Santa Monica-based Zag, the online auto buying site headed by Scott Painter, has hired on a Director of New Products, according to recruiting firm NeoHire. NeoHire said that Alexander Rosten has been hired into the position, joining Zag from Mota Motors, where he was Director of Analytics and Business Development. Rosten has also served at Google, Edmunds, and CarsDirect.com

Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor said Friday that it has appointed two new board members, as part of a debt restructuring deal. According to Vitesse, James Hugar and Grant Lyon replace Guy W. Adams, Robert A. Lundy, and Willow B. Shire, who have resigned in conjunction with the debt restructuring. Hugar was most recently at Deloitte & Touche LLP, and represents Imperial Capital Group. Lyon is president of Odyssey Capital Group, LLC, and has previously served at Hypercom, Ernst & Young Corporate Finance, Golf Equity, Evans Withycombe Residential, and Arthur Anderson, among other positions. Vitesse said it looking for another, independent director to fill the remaining vacancy.

Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen is the subject of a lawsuit being filed by New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, along with 14 other states, claiming that the biotech firm created a kickback scheme to boost drug sales. According to Cuomo, the lawsuit, filed today in federal court, claims that Amgen, International Nephrology Network (INN), a specialty group purchasing organization, and ASD Healthcare, a wholesaler offered kickbacks to medical providers who increased sales of anemia drug Aranesp. Other states in the lawsuit are California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Tennessee, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Intel Taiwan is working with Acer, Asus, Microsoft Taiwan, the Ministry of Education, Red Cross Society and Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology to set up IT learning environments for schools and digital services centres for communities to support the Typhoon Morakot disaster relief. Through this program, Acer, Asus, Intel Taiwan and Microsoft Taiwan will donate a total of 4,500 notebook PCs, netbooks, and desktop PCs with OS and software to help expedite education and community rebuilding in the typhoon affected areas. The typhoon-devastated schools will gain support from this program which combines PC donation and teachers training courses for building the IT learning environments. The digital services centers at communities are intended to support the agricultural products e-marketing, tourism development, indigenous culture communication, and after-school education.

Carlsbad-based Verdezyne, which is developing technology to improve the fermentation process for biofuels, has raised $2.96M as part of a funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm Thursday afternoon. According to the filing, the funding is part of an ongoing $15.18M round. Monitor Ventures and OVP Venture Partners–prior investors in the firm–are listed as current board members. No details on the funding have been released by the firm, which was formerly known as CODA Genomics.

Intel Capital congratulates Enjoyor Technology Group for its successful initial public offering (IPO) today on China’s Growth Enterprise Market (GEM). The launch of China’s GEM is a significant milestone for the Chinese capital market and Enjoyor’s listing is another example of Intel Capital’s support of local technology innovation and entrepreneurship. Intel Capital invested in Enjoyor Technology Group earlier this year with the goal of expanding Enjoyor’s research and development in traffic intelligence and its digital healthcare business. Enjoyor is the first Zhejiang enterprise to complete an IPO on the GEM, which provides a platform to finance companies in industries such as information technology, bio-medical and new energy.
