THQ Lays Off 100 Employees, Closes San Diego Office

Calabasas-based THQ, which develops computer game titles, is closing its San Diego, UK, and Germany offices, and has laid off 100 employees, according to an email to employees from CEO Brian Farrell. The move is part of a restructuring of the firm’s THQ Wireless operations. According to the note, the firm is streamlining its THQ Wireless operations to only focus on high-end handheld devices.

Citrix Cuts 10 Percent; Santa Barbara Hit

Citrix Systems, a provider of enterprise infrastructure software based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, said Wednesday that the firm is reducing its headcount by approximately 10 percent–and has laid off staff at the firm’s Santa Barbara Unit, Citrix Online. According to sources, the firm has provided notice to people in its Santa Barbara office about the cuts. A spokesperson for Citrix confirmed the cuts Friday evening…. (more)

Outcast Expands To New York

Santa Monica-based Outcast, a privately held provider of out-of-home advertising networks, said Thursday that the firm is expanding its network to New York. Outcast said its Fuelcast Network–an ad network which goes to gas stations–will expand to New York, bringing its number of locations to more than 900. Broadcom To Lay Off 200

Irvine-based Broadcom will lay off 200 workers, or about 3 percent of the firm’s employees, the firm said yesterday on its earnings call. According to Broadcom, the company is looking to manage its costs and focus on operating cash flow, and is implementing cost saving measures including delaying salary increases, a reduction in workforce, and a variety of other “belt-tightening” actions. Luxtera Snags $26.75M

Carlsbad-based Luxtera appears to have raised $26.75M in another venture round, according to this week’s PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree report. The firm, which develops optical interconnects, is a Caltech spinoff. No details on the funding have been disclosed, however, the firm has previously raised three rounds of capital from August Capital, ITU Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, Sevin Rosen Funds, and Zone Ventures…. Kaai Gets $5M

A stealthy Goleta-based startup, Kaai, which is focused on LED technology, has quietly raised $5M in funding, according to both regulatory filings and recent numbers in the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA Moneytree report. No details of the funding have been released, however, the startup was founded by Shuji Nakamura and Stephen DenBaars, key pioneers of LED technology. G-Technology, Ingram Micro Ink U.S. Distribution Deal

G-Technology Inc., a manufacturer of audio/video data storage devices, revealed earlier this week that it has signed a U.S. distribution deal with global IT supplier Ingram Micro Inc. Ixia Taps Manufacturing Partner

Calabasas-based Ixia, which develops test hardware and software for the networking market, announced this morning that it has selected Plexus Corp. as its strategic supply chain solutions provider. According to Ixia, Plexus will manufacture its test, measurement, and service verification products. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Ixia’s products are used for IP network testing, including products for testing Gigabit Ethernet, IPTV, broadband services, VoIP, and network security.
