El Segundo-based International Rectifier said Friday afternoon that it has received an unsolicited proposal from Vishay Intertechnology to acquire the firm. The deal is worth $21.22 per share, or approximately $1.6 billion. According to International Rectifier, the firm’s board of directors will evaluate the proposal consultation with its financial and legal advisers. International Rectifier is a manufacturer of analog, digital, and mixed signal semiconductors.

San Diego-based Web 2.0, video publishing firm Eyespot has inked a deal with Limelight Networks, to provide content delivery for its customers, the firm said Thursday. Eyespot said that it will use Limelight for its fully hosted video publishing platform. Eyespot offers video publishing tools and delivery of videos to customers; the firm’s platform allows publishers to upload, edit, and distribute ad-supported videos.

PC users will get a performance boost from the new Intel® Turbo Memory with User Pinning that will allow users to select, or “pin,” their favorite applications for acceleration. Data intensive programs, gaming, digital media editing and productivity software are examples of applications that will benefit from user pinning. Intel is demonstrating this at Flash Memory Summit today at 2:40 p.m. in a tutorial entitled, “Flash in the PC: New Approaches to Nonvolatile Memory Subsystems.” The new Intel Turbo Memory with User Pinning is in production and available for the Intel Montevina platform (Intel® Centrino 2 processor).

Intel today announced the availabilty of its draft Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) specification. This is a ‘Dummies Guide’ to building silicon chips that support the new USB 3.0 standard (also known as SuperSpeed USB). Intel is making this specification available royalty free. The industry is keen to adopt a single standard in order to ensure great interoperability between USB 3.0 devices. AMD, Dell, Microsoft, NEC and Nvidia Corporation are supporting the new spec.

Intel is helping to bring together the world of computer graphics with the creativity of both Hollywood and the Facebook community through the Mass Animation project. Starting this fall, animators will collaborate on Facebook to animate small pieces of a 5-minute, professional-quality short film. Intel’s processor performance and Facebook’s sharing tools enable large numbers of people to innovate, animate and work together on a single creative endeavor. This joint venture will be produced and directed by industry veteran Yair Landau.
