Newegg Names New CEO

City of Industry-based Newegg, an online electronics retailer, said today that the firm has shuffled its executive staff in a major change. According to the firm, Tally Liu, current President of the firm, has been promoted to Chairman and CEO of the company. Liu replaces Fred Chang, one of Newegg’s founders. According to the firm, Chang will continue to serve on the firm’s board and executive committee, as well as President of Newegg’s China operations. Liu has been at Newegg for almost three years, and had previously served at Knight Ridder Inc. and its subsidiaries. Newegg said that it is the second-largest online-only retailer in the United State, with $1.9B in annual sales.

NovaDigm Therapeutics Raises $4M

Torrance-based NovaDigm Therapeutics, a stealth biomedical firm developing vaccines and therapeutics for the treatment of infections, has quietly raised $4M in funding. Backers of the firm include Domain Associates; it also appears that the firm has previously received funding from KPCB Pandemic and Biodefense Fund from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The funding amount was disclosed in quarterly funding numbers from the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree survey earlier this month.

Nirvanix Hires Executive To Focus On Entertainment

San Diego-based Nirvanix said Wednesday that it has hired on Ezra Davidson as its new Managing Director of Media Entertainment Services, focused on the entertainment industry. Nirvanix, which provides storage-as-a-service for Internet and other companies, said Davidson will report to the firm’s VP of Sales, Daniel Havens. Davidson previously served as co-founder of SyncCast, as well as serving at Metromedia International Group, The Brown Organization, and a consultant at Deloitte. Nirvanix provides storage on the Internet which is accessible via application programming interfaces, and competes against Amazon S3.

Leap Wireless, FIM Sign Content Deal

San Diego-based Cricket Communications, a wireless service provider owned by Leap Wireless, and Fox Interactive Media said this morning that they are in a content distribution agreement. Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but the firms said that the deal will enable Cricket customers to access FIM’s portfolio of web sites. Cricket is an flat-rate, unlimited wireless service; FIM’s web sites include MySpace, Photobucket, and other properties.
