Los Angeles-based FanLib.com, an online site focused on “fan fiction”–fan created stories based on popular characters and movies–has shut down. According to a notice on FanLib’s web site, the site will shut down on Monday, August 4th. No reason for the shutdown was given. Fanlib was backed by $3M in venture capital by H.I.G. Capital. paidContent.org’s Rafat Ali speculated in a story earlier today that a deal for Disney to purchase the site had fallen through; paidContent had reported a possible deal for the firm by Disney in June.

Valencia-based H2scan Corporation, a provider of hydrogen leak detection and monitoring technology, said Tuesday that the firm has raised $4M in a Series D funding round. The round came from Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital, H5 Capital, L.P., Tri-Strip Associates, LLC, TGB Partners and Ravinia Venture Fund. Members of the Tech Coast Angels and Pasadena Angels also participated. According to H2scan, the funding round has gone to upgrade its production and R&D facility, toward additional equipment, and for additional sales and marketing efforts.

Marina Del Rey-based Six Degrees Games, a stealth mode developer of video games, has quietly raised venture capital worth $7M. The funding was first disclosed in the PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree Q2 report earlier this month. No names of investors were disclosed, however Prism VentureWorks now lists Six Degrees as a portfolio firm of the company. Prism describes Six Degrees as “publishing a casual virtual world targeting tweens.”
