Carlsbad-based electric car startup Aptera Motors has scored $2.75M in funding from Google’s nonprofit arm, Google.org and its RechargeIT initiative, Google said Wednesday morning. Aptera is developing both all-electric and hybrid vehicles. According to Google, Aptera Motors to receive an investment from the organization after responding to an RFP from teams relevant to its goal of accelerating adoption of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Lithium-ion battery technology firm ActaCell, based in Texas, also received an investment from Google. Aptera is backed by Idealab; the firm is the second Idealab startup to get backing from Google…. San Diego-based RealGifts, a privately funded startup focused on the Facebook application market, said today that it is rolling out a new Facebook application which actually provides real, physical gifts to Facebook users. The firm said its new application allows users to buy gifts, which are then gift wrapped and sent to users via the mail. RealGifts said that users can purchase gourmet treats, bath and beauty products, and novelty items from the firm’s application, which sends a virtual wrapped gift at the same time that a real tangible gift is sent in the mail. RealGifts was founded in December of 2007, and has around 10 employees.
