Chicago-based Midway Games Inc, a publisher and developer of interactive games, said Monday evening that it will combine the firm’s Los Angeles studio, which is based in Moorpark, with its San Diego operations. The firm said that it will combine Midway Studios-Los Angeles with Midway Home Entertainment, which is based in San Diego. Number of employees affected by the move was not disclosed by the company, however, the company said that the “majority” of its Moorpark employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the company’s San Diego facility. Midway Games said it will complete the transition out of its Moorpark facility by September 30th.

Carlsbad-based security software provider Breach Security has raised $6M in a funding round, from Enterprise Partners, RBA No. 5, and Evergreen Venture Partners, the firm told socalTECH today. The funding round brings the total raised by the firm to $32.5M. Funding will go towards growth of the business, and to “capitalize on the market opportunity” for web application security solutions, the firm said. Breach Security is a developer of web application security software and security appliances. The firm said it now has 65 employees. Breach was founded in 2004.

San Diego-based Certona said today that it has raised $7M in a Series A financing, led by ABS Ventures. Prior investor Express Ventures also participated. Certona is a provider of optimization and personalization products for retailers. According to the firm, the funding will go to expand sales, marketing, customer support, and product development. Certona’s software is used for personalizing the online retail experience based on visitor interests and behavior. The firm had raised a seed round of funding in February of 2007 for its products from Express Ventures.

FunnyorDie, the Palo Alto- and Los Angeles startup headed by comedian Will Ferrell, is shutting down one of the firm’s “or Die” web sites, BlueCollarOrDie, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting this morning. Or Die Networks, the parent company of FunnyOrDie, operates ShredorDie, PwnOrDie, EatDrinkorDie, and until now BlueCollarorDie, all built on the same video publishing platform as FunnyorDie. The shutdown ends a very short history for the site– BlueCollarOrDie was only launched in February of this year, and renamed KungFuTodd recently. The site featured comedy from Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, and others…. (more)
