Former Intel CEO and Chairman Andy Grove, today a senior adviser to the company, has penned an article on US energy “resilience” – titled “Our Electric Future,” or “An Energy Policy We Can Stick To” – for The American, a magazine published by the public policy think-tank American Enterprise Institute. In his article, Grove advocates rapid electrification of passenger vehicles as a national security imperative, discussing the business theory basis for why it hasn’t happened so far, broaching a concept called energy “stickiness,” and pushing for extraordinary measures including possible government intervention as with telecom in the 80s and 90s.

Los Angeles-based Shopflick said Thursday that the firm has raised $7M in a Series A funding. The site–which allows sellers to create and post videos about their products–said the funding came from Panorama Capital and Venrock. Shopflick said that its platform allows sellers to use video to tell the story behind their products, and allows those customers to purchase those products. The firm is led by David Grant, former founder and President of Fox TV Studios.

San Diego-based The Linkup, the latest incarnation of file storage site MediaMax/Streamload, said Wednesday that the firm will be closing its services, as of August 8th. According to The LinkUp, it will no longer accept any uploads or new accounts, it will no longer charge customers, and it will also delete all files stored on the service. The firm said in a posting on its web site that it was unable to “satisfactorily complete” the move of files from MediaMax to The LinkUP, so it has decided to shut down its service…. (more)

Los Angeles-based PriceGrabber.com said today that the online shopping comparison site has launched a new feature focused on a “deal of the day.” According to the firm, its new Product of the Day feature will limited number of a featured product, at a discounted price. The products will come from retailers like TigerDirect.com, EverythingFurniture.com, and DiamondHarmony.com. PriceGrabber.com is owned by Experian. The company said the daily products will be selected from PriceGrabber.com’s 25 product channels, ranging from electronics to jewelry to clothing. The feature is similar to Amazon…. (more)

Los Angeles-based En Pointe Technologies said late Wednesday evening that it has sold its IT services business, which is part of its wholly-owned subsidiary, En Pointe Technologies Sales, Inc. According to En Pointe, which provides IT products and services to businesses, it is selling its service business to Allied Digital Services Ltd., an Indian corporation, in a deal worth approximately $24M. Allied Digital Services Ltd. is a publicly traded corporation in India providing IT management and technical services outsourcing. The deal includes the transfer of what the firm describes as “substantially all” of its service employees and related contracts…. (more)
