Los Angeles-based content deliver network firm Edgecast Networks said today that it has signed on blip.tv, an internet television network, for its CDN services. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. EdgeCast provides content delivery network services to content providers; the firm competes against Limelight Networks, Akamai, Vitalstream, and others in the CDN market. Edgecast is venture backed by Steamboat Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Walt Disney Company.

Los Angeles-based Web 2.0, travel social networking web site Placely said today that it has added a new service which allows its users to track their frequent flyer miles. The site, which allows travelers to share their experiences about travel and travel locations, said the new service supports tracking American Airlines, Delta, Continental, Jet Blue, Southwest and other domestic airlines. Placely’s web site launched its public beta in November of last year.

San Diego-based cloud storage provider Nirvanix said today that it has rolled out new software, which creates a network attached storage (NAS) server using the firm’s cloud computing services. According to Nirvanix, its new network attached storage software allows a standard, 1U server to act as a multi-petabyte NAS device–all using the firm’s Internet-based storage services. Nirvanix said that the beta of the software is built using the firm’s Storage Delivery Network, the company’s answer to Amazon.com’s S3 storage services. The new software — instead of using local disk storage — instead uses the Internet to connect to Nirvanix servers to store data…. (more)
