Laguna Hills-based M2 Technology Partners, LLC, a new investment firm focused on the software and services business, said Tuesday that it has launched with sponsorship from technology focused private equity firm Accel-KKR. The new firm is headed by Mark Duffell and Michael Piraino, both formerly of Epicor Software. According to the firm, M2 will focus on middle market enterprise software businesses that are looking for operational expertise or are ready for consolidation. Duffell was most recently president and COO at Epicor; Piraino, was formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer at Epicor, one of the biggest software firms in Orange County…. Los Angeles-based video sharing web site Revver said Tuesday that it has inked a deal with technology video content provider Revision3 to publish shows on Revver’s web site. According to the two, they are in an agreement to bring Revision3’s shows to Revver’s network, starting with “Scam School” and eventually including content from Diggnation, iFanboy, Tekzilla, and popSiren. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however the two said that the relationship will provide incremental advertising to Revision3. Revision3 also will be able to sell advertising against the content on Revver. Revision3 is headed by former PC Week editor Jim Louderback…. (more)

University of California Los Angeles researchers said this week that they have created a project which allows users to connect their cell phones and an application, as well as the Facebook social networking web site, to measure their personal impact on the environment. The UCLA researchers said that their new project, the Personal Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) lets users upload data from GPS-equipped mobile phones, to calculate carbon emissions and how people’s driving and other travel affects the environment. The application maps out a person’s travel, and estimates the amount of carbon emissions from that travel, as well as such things are exposure to pollution…. (more)

Burbank-based CEIVA Logic, a manufacturer of photo frames and online photo services, said Tuesday that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against two companies, Frame Media, Inc. and Digital Spectrum Solutions, Inc. According to the firm, CEIVA asserts that Frame Media’s FrameChannel photo sharing service, and Digital Spectrum’s web enabled pictures frames infringe on a patent granted to the firm. CEIVA is looking for damages for the patent infringement, and an injunction on the two firms for selling products or systems that infringe on CEIVA’s patent. Some of Intel’s brightest engineering and research minds are enjoying the sunshine in Honolulu this week at the VLSI Symposia on Technology and Circuits. Intel will present five papers at the conference ranging in topics from new details on the company’s next-generation Nehalem microarchitecture to research progress on the development of floating body cell devices that are a candidate for increased memory density compared to cache memory used on all microprocessors today. After months of rigorous testing for interoperability and mobility, the WiMAX Forum announced today that the Intel® Wi-Fi/WiMAX Link 5350 (codenamed “Echo Peak-P”) is one of the first products to be WiMax Forum Certified. The module is a highly integrated WiMAX + Wi-Fi mini card module designed to be embedded into notebooks and potentially other mobile or CE devices, and is the industry’s first integrated Wi-Fi/WiMAX module with advanced multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology. What does this mean? Future Intel-based laptop users would be able to access both Wi-Fi and WiMAX wireless networks easily and quickly. The Intel Wi-Fi/WiMAX Link 5350 is expected to be available in certain notebook PCs sold in the U.S. at the end of this year.
