Los Angeles-based CraveOnline, an online web site focused on men, said Monday that it has launched a new feature centered around independent band videos. Crave said that its new Crave Soundcheck offering offers exclusive performances by independent bands, and will offer on-going sponsorship opportunities to its advertisers. Sponsors of the new feature include AT&T, which has sponsored a series of videos on the site around the girl punk band Rocket. CraveOnline’s web site is targeted at young men, ages 18-34.

Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies reported Monday that it has appointed Bret Johnsen as the firm’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Johnsen replaces Simon Biddiscombe, who resigned in April to become CFO at QLogic. Johnsen was most recently VP and Corporate Controller at Broadcom Corporation. He has also served at Qualcomm and Coopers & Lybrand.

Los Angeles-based MySpace announced today that the firm has launched a number of new user interface changes. According to the social networking wee site, it has changed its home page, navigation, profile editing, search, and its online video player, as part of a year-long redesign effort. San Diego-based Meritage Pharma said Monday that it has raised $22.5M in a Series A venture funding for its specialty pharmaceuticals. The funding round came from Domain Associates, Latterell Venture Partner, and The Vertical Group. Meritage Pharma’s initial product is targeted at treatment of allergic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which the firm acquired by Verus Pharmaceuticals. The new firm is chaired by Cam L. Gardner, and headed by Malcolm R. Hill. Domain’s Gradner and James C. Blair along with Latterell’s Kenneth J. Widder are also on the company’s board.
