Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless said Wednesday that it has inked another deal to expand its access points in Europe. Boingo said that it has added Adael Wireless network in France, and the Guglielmo S.r.I. in Italy to its roster of hotspot providers in Europe; the deals boost the firm’s network by 500 hotspot locations. Boingo Wireless operates a network of Wi-Fi access points, in hotels, retail stores, airports, and other public areas. Adael Wireless operates 400 hotspots in France, which can be accessed through both paid subscriptions and through free, advertising-supported access; Guglielmo is a Wi-Fi provider licensed by the Italian Communication Board.

San Diego-based NextWave Wireless, a developer of broadband WiMAX semiconductors and wireless network systems, said Wednesday that it has teamed up with Taiwanese WiMAX operator Global Mobile Corporation, in a WiMAX field trial. According to the firms, the two companies will set up a WiMAX field trial which uses NextWave’s MXtv technology in Taipei, Taiwan. The trial will include mobile multimedia services, including mobile TV, interactive media, and digital audio to customers. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed.

San Diego-based KidZui, the venture backed startup which develops a kid-friendly browser targeted at families, said today that it has rolled out a new, free version of the firm’s software. KidZui said that it will offer a free version of its kid-friendly browser, in addition to offering a premium membership. KidZui’s browser limits access by kids to only websites reviewed by parents and teachers. KidZui said the company’s premium membership will offer “fun extras” for kids, including ability to tag and personalize the browser, and access a broader array of backgrounds and themes, as well as email reporting for parents and online activity reports…. Los Angeles-based EA Mobile, the mobile games division of Electronic Arts, said Wednesday that it has shipped Kung Fu Panda, a mobile game based on the characters from the DreamWorks Animation movie of the same name. According to EA Mobile, the game is available on wireless carriers in North America, and will be available in Europe in June. EA Mobile said the game was created in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation. Financial details of the collaboration was not detailed. EA Mobile develops games for mobile phones, and was previously known as JAMDAT Mobile before its acquisition by EA in 2006.

Fountain Valley-based networking hardware provider D-Link has created a new take on its network attached storage (NAS) devices, saying this morning that it will enable BitTorrent file downloads and uploads directly from the device. D-Link said it has shipped a free software upgrade for its DNS-323 Network Storage Enclosure and DIR-655 devices, which will enable the devices to directly link into BitTorrent peer-to-peer networks. The upgrade will turn the D-Link device into a BitTorrent Media Hub. According to D-Link, the upgrade comes through BitTorrent’s licensing and certification program…. (more)
