Activision Announces Guitar Hero Sequel

Santa Monica-based video game maker Activision said today that it is rolling out a sequel to the firm’s Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero World Tour. The firm said that the new title will add drums, bass guitar, and a microphone to the popular video game title, and will also allow players to play the popular game online. The new title is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATIOn 3; the Wii version is being developed by Vicarous Visions; with the PlayStation 2 end being handled by Budcat. New music to be included in the title include tracks from Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles, Sublime, with the ability to download additional music…. (more)

Gorilla Nation Signs Deal, Expands

Gorilla Nation, a Los Angeles-based online advertising representation firm for web sites, said this week that it has signed a deal to represent Freewebs, a UK-based provider of free web page hosting and tools for building personal home pages. According to Gorilla Nation, it will represent Freewebs’ international online ad inventory, and certain U.S. market categories. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Separately, the firm has continued to bolster its staff, saying it has hired a director for the firm’s ethnic vertical unit and hired new sales staff in London…. (more)

Websense Adds Texas Bank

San Diego-based security software firm Websense reported today that its products have been selected by OmniAmerican Bank, a financial institution located in Texas. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Websense, OmniAmerican Bank is using the firm’s Websense Data Security Suite for monitoring and data loss prevention. Websense is a developer of software for Internet filtering, monitoring, and security.

Craton Equity Partners Closes $191.5M Cleantech Fund

Los Angeles-based Craton Equity Partners said Wednesday that the firm has finalized on a third and final close of a new clean technology focused venture capital and private equity fund. The firm said that it has raised $191.5M for the fund, which first had a close in December of 2006. Craton Equity Partners was founded by Bob MacDonald and Tom Soto. The firm said it will focus on investing in small emerging growth companies in green building materials, renewable energy generation, alternative fuels, water remediation and management, and solid waste reduction and conversion technologies. John Gerson and Michael Lenard join MacDonald and Soto in managing the fund.

Peregrine Semiconductor Adds VP

San Diego-based Peregrine Semiconductor said today that it has appointed Ian Warbrick as Vice President of Supply Chain and Customer Service. The provider of RF-CMOS and other mixed signal communications chips said that Warbrick joins the firm from International Rectifier, where he was VP and GM of that firm’s Power Semiconductor Business Unit. He had served for over 10 years at IR, including serving as CEO of IR-SA, the firm’s joint venture with Sanyo Semiconductor. Peregine’s ICs are used in the broadband, wireless, and cellular phone market.

JAJAH, Chumby Link Services

San Diego-based Chumby Industries, which makes a Linux-based, Internet information gadget, has signed on Internet calling firm JAJAH as a provider of a new phone widget for the device. According to JAJAH, it has added its Internet telephony technology into Chumby’s device, allowing people to place local or global phone calls through the device. The firms said that the JAJAH widget is available now, but requires that Chumby users first create a JAJAH account. Chumby is venture backed by JK&B Capital, Avalon Ventures, Masthead Venture Partners, and O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures.
