In the wee hours of the morning today, Clearwire and Sprint announced that they entered into an agreement to combine their WiMAX businesses and form a new wireless communications company. They also announced that Intel Capital, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Google and Bright House Networks agreed to invest a combined $3.2 billion in the new company in support of its deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network in the U.S. Intel Capital specifically made its single largest investment ever at $1 billion. San Diego-based MindTouch said Wednesday that it has upgraded its open source wiki software. The firm said its new release, MindTouch Deki Wiki v8.05, specifically adds international language support. According to MindTouch, the new language features were developed for Mozilla, in order to allow the open source foundation to host multiple languages on its site. The new support includes multilingual content management, support for multiple languages in search, along with better tools for managing users, IP and user banning, new functions in its scripting language, along with support for OpenSearch. Mindtouch develops wiki software specifically targeted at enterprise customers; the firm counts Microsoft, Fujitsu, Siemens, Gannett, FedEx, U.S. Army, DoD and others as customers.

Irvine-based Sendio announced Wednesday that the firm has upgraded the firm’s email security appliance, the I.C.E. Box. The firm said that the new version of its email security product adds new support for Domain Keys, which is an email standard used to improve validation of email servers; new support for Spanish; and better reporting of the status of queued messages. Sendio–which is venture backed by Kline Hawkes and Momentum Venture Management–also said it has added a number of performance improvements to the product. Sendio’s hardware is used to provide sender authentication and email filtering capabilities to reduce the amount of spam received by companies.
