MySpace Mobile Hits Verizon

MySpace and Verizon Wireless said Friday that the firms have rolled out the MySpace Mobile application on Verizon’s wireless network. According to the firms, the mobile version of the popular social networking web site is now available on all “Mobile Web 2.0″ phones on Verizon. The service allows users to edit profiles, view and add friends, and receive messages from the site. The launch on Verizon follows a similar launch on Sprint last Thursday. Verizon and MySpace said that the launch is part of a larger agreement to distribute mobile versions of other FOX Interactive Media web sites on verizon Wireless.

Morph Labs Raises $1.5M

Los Angeles and Phillipinnes-based firm Morph Labs said today that it has raised $1.5M in funding from CSK Venture Capital Co. Ltd, and AO Capital. Morph Labs, which is headed by former Gluecode Software head Winston Damarillo, provides a system for managing Ruby on Rails applications. The firm said the funding was the first step in an IPO on the Philippine Stock Exchange in Q2 of 2008. Morph Labs provides monitoring, version management, deployment, load balancing, backup, and high availability features for people running Ruby on Rails applications. Winston Damarillo was the founder of Gluecode Software, which he sold to IBM in 2005. He also founded Los Angeles-based firms LogicBlaze, DevZuz, and Exist Global, and was a venture capitalist at Intel Capital.

ContentNext Expands Team, Opens Offices In New York

Santa Monica-based online publisher ContentNext said Thursday that it has hired a new CEO and Chief Sales officer, and has opened up an office in New York. ContentNext has hired on Nathan Richardson as CEO, and Patrick Dignan as Chief Sales Officer. Richardson was most recently head of Dow Jones Online, and has also served at Yahoo Finance. Dignan was most recently at Forbes.com. The firm’s founder, Rafat Ali, said that he remains Chairman of the firm and Editor and Publisher. ContentNext has also named Charlie Koones to its board. Koones was most recently president and publisher of Variety, where he left in January. Both Richardson and Dignan are based in a new, New York office.

Foundation 9 Entertainment Names Game Studio

Irvine-based Foundation 9 Entertainment said Thursday that it has given the name “Double Helix” to a new studio which it has formed from Shiny Entertainment and The Collective. It said the new Double Helix studio combines the technologies, team, and practices from the two companies–which it acquired in late 2007–at its Irvine headquaters. Double Helix is currently working on three games for gaming platforms.

TelASIC Hires Manufacturing VP

El Segundo-based TelASIC Communications said today that it has hired on Kent Osborne as the firm’s new Vice President of Manufacturing Operations. Osborne has served at DSC Communicaitons, Alcatel-Lucent, World Access, and other firms. TelASIC said that Osborne brings 26 years of experience in manufacturing and operations to the firm, and spent the last 8 years at a number of un-named startups. TelASIC is a manufacturer of semiconductors for the WCDMA and HSDPA telecommunications market.

Xytech Adds Apple Support

Burbank-based Xytech Systems, a provider of software for automating and managing digital workflow for the media business, said earlier this week that it has added support for Intel-based Apple computers. The firm’s software is used to manage media workflow for film studios, broadcasters, postproduction firms, and other media producers. The firm said it is using the Parallel utility to allow OS-X users to use its digital workflow applications. Xytech’s products are used for managing digital workflow with broadcast and video production.

Obagi Medical Products Loses CFO

Long Beach-based Obagi Medical Products, a provider of skin health products for the dermatology market, said this week that the firm’s CFO, Stephen A. Garcia, is resigning. According to the firm, Garcia will leave the firm July 15th. No reason for the departure was given. Obgai Medical Product said it has hired on a nationwide recruiting firm to find a new Chief Financial Officer.
