Numedeon Launches SportsBlox, Virtual World For Sports

Numedeon, the Pasadena-based company behind the children’s virtual world Whyville, has launched a second virtual world–SportsBlox–focused on sports fans. The new SportsBlox virtual world features virtual avatars in “sports bar” type settings, where fans can talk with other fans about their favorite teams and sports. Among features on the sites are sports brackets for March Madness; individual locations for different kinds of sports fans (football, NASCAR, basketball, golf, and others); and chat options.

Guidance Software Scores Win at Diebold

Pasadena-based Guidance Software said today that the firm’s products have been purchased by Diebold. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Guidance said that Diebold will use the firm’s EnCase Enterprise platform for its digital investigations. Guideance Software’s products are used to search for, collect, and preserve data for e-discovery and litigation support, compliance, and other uses.

QLogic Enhances SUSE Linux Support

Aliso Viejo-based storage networking products firm QLogic said Thursday that the firm has shipped an enhanced version of the firm’s host bus adapter (HBA) storage networking products for Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. QLogic said that it is now shipping a production ready HBA with support for N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV), a storage industry standard used for supporting virtualization software. QLogic claimed that it was the first HBA vendor to ship support that support for the latest version of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. NPIV support is used to allow administrators to create “virtual” host bus adapter ports in conjunction with Novell’s ZENworks Orchestrator and virtual machine management tools.

Entropic Inks Chinese Deals

San Diego-based Entropic Communications said yesterday that it has signed two deals to deploy its technology in China, including deals with firms BROWAN Communications and Actioncable. Entropic said BROWAN Communications will deploy its technology in Tianjin, Suzhou, and Guilin China, to provide its customers with high speed Internet connections, and ability to later add video and voice services. In a separate deal, Entropic disclosed that Actioncable will use the firm’s technology in a deployment in SiChuan province. Financial terms of both deals were not disclosed. Entropic is a developer of semiconductors for last-mile, high speed broadband access.
