The Intel® Academic Community is a worldwide program to connect faculty from more than 400 universities with peers and Intel experts to facilitate the sharing of expertise, resources and curricula to prepare students for multicore parallel programming. The online community includes access to software development tools, wikis for the collaborative development of curricula, blogs to discuss trends and challenges and discussion forums for problem solving. Symwave Nabs Broadcom Exec For CEO Position

San Diego-based Symwave, a supplier of analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said Tuesday that it has hired on Yossi Cohen as the firm’s President and CEO. Cohen was most recently Senior Vice President and Group General Manager of Broadcom’s Mobile Platforms Group, and had previously managed both Broadcom’s Bluetooth and Gigabit controller businesses. As part of the hire, Symwave said that it will open a new headquarters in Orange County, California to augment its existing San Diego office. Symwave is backed by Kodiak Venture Partners, CMEA, and others. the firm develops high speed, serial physical layer ICs (PHYs) and analog front end ICs.

MabVax Therapeutics Raises $8M For Cancer Treatment

San Diego-based MabVax Therapeutics has recently raised $8M in a Series A funding round, from GBP Capital. The firm is focused on development and commercialization of immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer. According to MabVax, the firm’s technology is based on work on monovalent cancer vaccines at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which has licensed the technology to MabVax.
