GeoMicro Gets Investment From AccuWeather

Irvine-based GeoMicro, a developer of mapping technology, has received an investment from AccuWeather, a provider of weather information. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed. According to AccuWeather, the firm will also be incorporating GeoMicro’s AltaMap platform as part of an effort to include dynamically generated satellite and radar images. GeoMicro’s mapping technology integrates radar images, temperature, weather conditions, storm tracks, and other information into interactive weather maps.

NextWave Wireless Launches Multimedia Platform, Signs Partners

San Diego-based NextWave Wireless has launched a new multimedia broadcasting technology for WiMax operators, and signed up a number of partners behind the solution. NextWave launched its MXtv technology Monday, saying that its new technology allows the broadcast of mobile TV, interactive media services, and digital audio through WiMax 802.16e equipment. The firm has signed up Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent as partners in bringing the technology to market. The deal with Huawei, which was also announced Monday, calls for Huawai to integrate NextWave’s MXtv technology into its base stations and gateway platforms. NextWave said today that Alcatel-Lucent is in a strategic agreement with the firm to integrate its technology into Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMax solutions, and also to work together on interoperability testing starting in the second quarter of 2008. Financial terms of those two deals was not disclosed.

Chip Shot: Intel’s Bryant Recognized For CFO ‘Lifetime’ Achievement

Intel’s Andy Bryant, former CFO and current executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer, has been honored with the prestigious 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bay Area CFO of the Year Awards. Bryant was Intel’s CFO from 1994 to 2007, overseeing tremendous Intel growth worldwide. Greenlight Wireless Inks PPC Deal With MIVA

Irvine-based Greenlight Wireless, a provider of mobile advertising and mobile services, announced today that it has signed an agreement with MIVA Media, the digital advertising network of MIVA, Inc. According to Greenlight Wireless, consumers accessing mobile sites using its services will see MIVA’s Pay-Per-Click ads. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Greenlight Wireless operates Skweezer, a free service which reformats web pages into mobile format for cell phones and PDAs. The firm also operates a mobile advertising network for publishers delivering mobile sites.

Triton Pacific Buys Majority Interest In AssetPoint

Los Angeles-based private equity firm Triton Pacific Capital Partners said Wednesday that it has acquired AssetPoint, a provider of software for enterprise asset management and equipment maintenance. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. AssetPoint is based in Greenville, SC, and is a spinoff of Flour Corporation.

Language Weaver Names Tapling CEO

Los Angeles-based Language Weaver said today that it has named Mark Tapling as CEO of the firm. Tapling joins the firm from InfoGenesis, where he was President and CEO. Tapling has also served at Everypath, and ServiceWare, where he led that firm’s IPO. Tapling replaces founder, CTO, and interim chairman Daniel Marcu, who was interim CEO for the firm. Marcu had replaced CEO Bryce Benjamin last year in an unannounced move. Language Weaver is a developer of automated translation software based on statistical translation techniques; the firm is a spinout of the University of Southern California.
