LiveUniverse, the online interactive entertainment site headed by former Intermix head Brad Greenspan, said today that it has offered $11M plus equity to acquire Stage6, the online user generated video site owned by DivX. According to LiveUniverse, its offers to acquire the site has been rebuffed by the board of directors of DivX. LiveUniverse said it is looking to pay $3.0M in cash, plus $5.0M in online advertising to DivX to acquire its Stage6 site, which DivX shut down last week. The firm said that it would provide 10% of the equity in the new company to DivX shareholders along with the deal. LiveUniverse is looking to merge Stage6 into its four video entertainment websites. The offer to acquire San Diego-based Stage6 comes shortly after LiveUniverse acquired Los Angeles-based Revver, another online video sharing and user generated content web site. According to LiveUniverse, Montgomery Securities is representing DivX in its sale of Stage6.

El Segundo-based OGPlanet, an operator of multiplayer online games, said today that it has partnered with Internet payment provider ClickandBuy. OGPlanet said that it will offer its players an option to pay via the payment provider. OGPlanet has a number of free, massively multiplayer online games; the firm allows users to purchase in-game items and accessories. According to a maintenance notice posted on OGPlanet’s web site, it removed Paypal as a payment option for its games on Wednesday. OGPlanet has received investments from former RealNetworks exec Richard Wolpert, Mark Surfas of GameSpy, former RealArcade vice president Andrew Wright, and BellRock Media CEO Peter Levin.

San Diego-based Eyespot, a provider of video editing and other tools, said Friday that it is looking to help video publishers migrate from VideoEgg. According to Eyespot, it will support publishers who have been informed they need to migrate from VideoEgg’s video hosting and streaming service, which is being discontinued. EyeSpot operate a software-as-a-service offering that allows video publishers to publish and include advertising in streaming video. The firm said it has free, ad-supported and low-cost monthly offerings available. The firm is one of several who are targeting VideoEgg’s customers; Los Angeles-based Userplane also announced it is looking to support video publishers migrating from VideoEgg this morning.

Los Angeles-based Entretech, the nonprofit which is looking to boost the Los Angeles technology industry, awarded the winners of the group’s annual Entrepreneurship awards Thursday night at a dinner in Los Angeles. The association tapped Rubicon Project, Zag, and eHarmony as winners of the awards, the fifth year for the group’s event. The group’s Entrepreneurship Awards are divided into three categories based on revenues. Rubicon was selected in the Start-Up Category for companies with under $1M in revenues; Zag for the Emerging Category between $1M and $8M in revenues; and eHarmony received the award in the Growth Category, for companies with over $8M in revenues. Rubicon Project is the Clearstone, IDG, and Mayfield funded online advertising startup headed by former L90 founder Frank Addante; Zag provides online car buying services and technology, and is run by Scott Painter, former CEO and founder of CarsDirect…. Santa Monica-based Userplane said this morning that it will release a new media playing widget for its customers, which will support video uploading, publishing, and hosting. The firm, which is a subsidiary of AOL, did not give a new release date its new Userplane Mediaplayer software, which was previously targeted for release in June. The firm said that the player is targeted at filling a void left by the exit of VideoEgg from the video hosting market. Userplane said its new software will provide free video upload and playback capability, chat, and other features.

Calabasas-based Ixia said Thursday afternoon that it has promoted Atul Bhatnagar as CEO and President of the firm. Ixia, which develops network testing systems for high speed IP performance testing, said that Bhatnagar will succeed current CEO and co-founder Errol Ginsberg. Ginsberg will continue to serve as chairman of the board, and will become Chief Innovation Officer for the company. Ixia said the move was part of a succession plan for the company. Ginsberg will lead a new unit called Ixia Labs focused on advanced engineering at the company. Ixia said that Ginsberg would also focus on evaluating market opportunities and potential acquisitions for the company.

Irvine-based Sendio, which develops email filtering appliances targeted at eliminating spam email, said earlier this week that the firm’s products have been selected by the Don Valley North Automotive Group. The group operates a family of Toyota and Lexus dealerships in Canada. Financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. Sendio markets an email filtering device which uses challenge-response to filter out virus emails. Sendio is venture backed by Kline Hawkes California, LP and Momentum Venture Management.

Data storage giant EMC Corporation said Thursday afternoon that it has completed its acquisition of Carlsbad-based Document Sciences Corporation. The deal, which was originally announced in December, was worth $85.8M in cash. EMC said the acquisition will complement the firm in the area of enterprise content management. Document Sciences is a developer of software for managing personalized communications with customers, including things such as statements, contracts, marketing, and other correspondence. Document Sciences will become a business unit within EMC’s Content Management and Archiving division.
