The Securities and Exchange Commission reported Tuesday afternoon that the former vice president of human resources at Broadcom Corporation, Nancy M. Tullos, has agreed to pay more than $1.3M plus a civil penalty of $100,000 for her involvement in the stock options backdating at Broadcom. According to the SEC, the payment will be offset by the value of her exerciseable stock options that Broadcom cancelled. Tullos had been charged by the SEC for participating in a scheme to backdate stock option grants to coincide with dates of low closing prices from 1998 to 2003. The stock options backdating investigation resulted in a restatement by Broadcom in January of 2007 of compensation expenses of $2.2 billion. The SEC said that Tullos agreed to the settlement without admitting or denying the allegations in the complaint.

Subsequent to the spectrum license approved by Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) last December, Wireless Broadband Planning Inc., a joint venture set up by Intel Capital, KDDI, and other companies, revealed its new company name “UQ Communications Inc.” The company also announced a capital increase by 16.15 billion yen to 17 billion yen. Today’s announcement represents a major milestone towards the planned deployment of mobile WiMAX service in Japan in 2009.

Demand Media, the online media firm headed by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, said today that it has acquired Pluck, a provider of social media software for publishing firms. Austin, Texas-based Pluck’s software is used by Reuters, Hearst, Gannett/USA TODAY and other publishers to find and feature blog posts. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Pluck was founded in 2003. Demand Media has raised over $350 million in venture funding for its social media efforts.

West Hollywood-based LiveVideo.com, the online video site run by former Intermix CEO Brad Greenspan, said today that it has acquired user generated video sharing site Revver. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Livevideo.com, which is a subsidiary of LiveUniverse, Brad Greenspan will oversee strategy and expansion initiatives for both LiveVideo.com and Revver.com. LiveVideo said that Revver.com is hosting over 40 million video streams a month. Both sites will continue to be operated as separate, branded web sites. Revver previously raised funding from Bessemer Venture Partner, Comcast Interactive Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Draper Richards, and Turner New Media.
