60Frames Debuts Online Series

Los Angeles-based 60Frames Entertainment, the online digital media firm founded by the United Talent Agency’s Brett Weinstein, launched its online programming lineup Wednesday, and announced a number of distribution partners. The firm said that it has debuted seven new original, online series, including one produced by the creators of “Prom Queen.” 60Frames said that it will distribute its content through Blip.tv, Break.com Dailymotion, Heavy.com, iTunes, MySpace, Veoh Networks, Vuze, and YouTube, in addition to its own site. The new online-only series include “Cockpit,” by the creaters of “Prom Queen,” and a series called Erik The Librarian written by Brent Forrester of “The Office.” 60Frames is venture backed by the Tudor Investment Group and The Pilot Group, and raised a $3.5M round of funding last year. 60Frames says that it has more than a dozen original projects in development and production, with plans to finance an additional 50 series over the next 12 months.

Helio Rolls New Slider, GPS Services

Los Angeles-based MVNO Helio said Wednesday that it has released a new, “slider” cell phone for the firm’s cell phone services. Helio said that its new Mysto provides a 2 megapixel camera with 4x zoom, a 2.2 inch display, and 100MB of memory, along with audio and video playback. In addition to the new device, the firm has launched two new GPS-based search services, WHERE and TellME. Helio is tapping uLocate for the WHERE application; it provides local weather and events based on a user’s current location. Tellme is Microsoft’s voice enabled, local search service. Both are available for free to Helio users. Samsung is manufacturing Helio’s new Mysto device, which is based on Samsung’s U600 cell phone.

Veoh Taps Dow Jones For Sales Exec

Los Angeles-based Veoh Networks, the online video sharing and broadcasting service, said this morning that it has hired Michael Henry as its new Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales. Henry joins the firm from Dow Jones & Company, where he was Vice President of its integrated corporate sales and marketing division. Veoh also said that in conjunction with the hiring of Henry, it would open a New York office for the firm. Veoh is backed by Goldman Sachs, Firefly3, Shelter Capital, Spark Capital, Tornante Company, and Time Warner.

iStor Hires VP From Dot Hill

Irvine-based iStor Networks has appointed a new VP of Software Engineering, saying today that it has hired on Jim Wayda to the position. Wayda joins the firm from Dot Hill Systems, where he was Chief Software Architect and VP of Software Engineering. Wayda has also previously served at Digital Equipment Corporation, Distributed Logic Corporation, Plessey Peripheral Systems, and Transitional Technology. iStor is a manufacturer of network storage products.
