Invitrogen Acquires CellzDirect

Carlsbad-based Invitrogen, a developer of life science technology, said Thursday that it has acquired CellzDirect, a provivder of services used in the testing of new drugs, for approximately $57M in cash. CellzDirect, which is based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, provides hepatocyte-based cell products and related services, which is used for predicting the effect of drugs on the liver. Invitrogen said that CellzDirect expects to have revenues of approximately $18M in calendar year 2007.

Docstoc Adds Personal Profiles

Beverly Hills-based Docstoc, a Web 2.0 firm providing online sharing of professional business documents, said this morning that it has rolled out a new feature which allows users to create a profile page. The new feature allows users to choose to display documents either focused on a person’s personal profile, or on the document itself. According to the firm, the new profile focus allows users to generate business leads, and connect with other professionals. Docstoc’s site includes documents like employment agreements, NDAs, business plans, and other legal and similar documents.

Cornerstone OnDemand Gets Win At Butterball

Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand, a provider of software-as-a-service for talent and employee management, has scored a customer win at Butterball LLC, the firm said earlier this week. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Butterball is the largest producer of turkey in the United States, Cornerstone OnDemand said. Butterball will use Cornerstone OnDemand’s web-based software for learning, performance, and succession planning processes. Cornerstone OnDemand is venture backed by Bay Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners.

Citrix Rolls Out New Remote Support Software

Santa Barbara-based Citrix Online, a provider of remote access and meeting software, said earlier this week that it has rolled out a beta of a new, remote support solution targeted at small businesses. The new software, Citrix GoToAssist Express, is a version of the firm’s GoToAssist product. According to Citrix, the software is in final development, and will be targeted at SMBs. The new tool is currently being offered as a free beta to small business users. Citrix GoToAssist Express allows small businesses to remotely support users, and includes screen sharing, file transfer, chat, remote diagnostics, and support for Windows XP, Vista, and the Mac.

Networkcar Names VP Indirect Distribution

San Diego-based Networkcar, a provider of wireless vehicle management systems and remote diagnostics, said earlier this week that it has appointed Tamara Chamberlin to VP of Indirect Distribution. Chamberlin was most recently at wireless Internet provider Clearwire, where she was west region General Manager. Chamberlin has also served at Sprint Nextel. Networkcar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hughes Telematics, and provides GPS-based, remote diagnostic systems for vehicles.

Entropic, D-Link Connect on Home Networking Hardware

San Diego-based Entropic Communications and D-Link said earlier this week that the two have partnered on a home networking bridge. The two have rolled out the D-Link DXN-220, which is a MoCA compliant bridge for the digital home entertainment market. MoCA, Multimedia over Coax, is a industry initiative to provide a standard protocol for distributing digital video and entertainment over existing coax fiber. The new hardware connects Ethernet to coax wiring, and uses Entropic’s chipsets to stream video, music, and other data to home entertainment systems.

Xirrus Deploys At Occam

Westlake Village-based Xirrus, a provider of Wi-Fi networking equipment, has signed on fellow hardware manufacturer Occam Networks as a customer. Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks has deployed Xirrus hardware as part of a new building in Santa Barbara. Financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. Xirrus said its equipment will provide Wi-Fi coverage of Occam’s new 47,000 square foot headquarters. Xirrus, which is venture backed by August Capital and US Venture Partners, develops high speed Wi-Fi networking hardware, which combines multiple wireless access points into a single switched device.
