El Segundo-based Peerless Systems, which develops technology for the printing and imaging market, said Thursday that it is in a definitive agreement to sell substantially all of its intellectual property and other assets to Kyocera Mita Corporation. The deal is worth $37M in cash. According to Peerless, the deal covers IP and assets related to its digital imaging software. Kyocera Mita Corporation is firm’s primary customer for that technology. Peerless said that Kyocera Mita will provide a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, and royalty-free license to the technology it is selling to the firm, and will also sublease a portion of its El Segundo facilities. The deal is subject to the transfer of at least 30 Peerless employees involved in the development of Kyocera Mita products.

Los Angeles-based MySpace said today that it has launched a new content channel specifically focused on celebrities and entertainment. The firm said that the new site will provide official celebrity MySpace profiles, and will include actors, musicians, athletes, comedians, and others. MySpace said the new channel is targeted at helping celebrities promote their projects, voice opinions, control their image, and communicate with their fans, among other things. Official celebrity profiles featured on the site include Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Tom Hanks, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many others.

San Clemente-based Multistat said today that the firm has completed a Series A funding from angel group the Tech Coast Angels. Amount of the funding was not disclosed. Multistat said the funding will go to fuel the company’s growth, and for sales and marketing. Multistat is developing computer aided design software. The Tech Coast Angels are represented on the firm’s board by Dr. Douglas Giese and John Harbison, along with CEO Ralph Mayer, who is also a TCA member.

Irvine-based Specific Media, a major online advertising network, said earlier this week that it has appointed David Jakubowski as a Senior Vice President at the firm. Jakubowski joins Specific Media from Microsoft, where he was general manager of Microsoft adCenter and Search Strategy. Jakubowski has also served at Quigo Technologies. Specific Media operates an online advertising network which allows advertisers to target their ads via demographics; the firm said that its network includes ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, Major League Baseball, Sportsline.com and VIACOM. Specific Media is venture backed by Enterprise Partners, Francisco Partners, and Shepherd Ventures.

Los Angeles-based Interneer, which develops software for managing engineering and other tasks, said earlier this week that it has added Frank Perna Jr., the former Chairman and CEO of MSC Software, to its board of directors. Perna headed MSC Software from December 1998 to February 2005. Perna is currently on the boards of CalAmp, PeopleSupport, and Ping Identity. Perna joins Jim Collins, and Michael Edell of Groundwork Equity on the firm’s board. Interneer is venture backed by Groundwork Equity.
