Memeo Raises $8.1M Series B Funding

Aliso Viejo-based Memeo, a company which develops a backup and recovery software for photos, music, and other digital files, said Monday that it has raised $8.1M in a Series B round of funding. Funding came from the Foundry Group, which led the round, along with G-51 Capital. Memeo said it is profitable, and will use the capital to boost its market position, expand its team, build distribution channels, and for product development. Ryan McIntyre of Foundry Group will join the firm’s board as part of the funding. Memeo’s LifeAgent software is shipped with hard drives and other storage to allow PC users to back up new or changed files.

Nirvanix Signs Axentra

San Diego-based online storage provider Nirvanix said today at CES that it has partnered with Axentra, a provider of software for storing photos, video, and music. Axentra and Nivranix said that it would add support for the Nirvanix online storage service as part of the firm’s HipServ application, as part of a release of the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition personal media server. The integration will allow users of the HipServ platform to access an online backup feature which uses Nirvanix as the storage provider; the service will be available as a $39.99 per year subscription.

DevZuz Acquired By Exist Global

Marina Del Rey-based DevZuz, a venture-backed provider of open source development tools, has been acquired by Exist Global, a software engineering services firm based in the Phillipines. Exist Global did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition. DevZuz has received at least $9.25M in venture capital investments from Mission Ventures and Redpoint Ventures, and is headed by former Gluecode founder Winston Damarillo. Damarillo is also chairman of Exist Global. DevZuz develops application software used for managing open source and other development projects, based on the Apache Maven and other open source projects; the company was formerly known as Simula Labs. Exist Global said that the combined entity will focus on strategic software development services for start-up companies, enterprises, and independent software vendors across the globe.
