San Diego-based Allylix, a developer of chemicals for the flavor, fragrance, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and agricultural markets, said today that it has raised $3.35M in a venture round. The funding came from the Tech Coast Angels, Life Science Angels, Blue Grass Angels, Pasadena Angels, and Tate & Lyle Ventures. Los Angeles-based statistical machine language translation firm Language Weaver said Wednesday that it has tied into across Systems GmbH, a German provider of corporate translation management systems. Language Weaver said the two companies will provide a bundled software package that will support German/English translation of documents in the industrial manufacturing domain. Irvine-based Microsemi Corporation, a developer of analog mixed signal integrated circuits, said Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire Microwave Device Technology Corporation (MDT), in a deal worth $7.8M in cash. Microsemi said it would acquire substantially all of the assets of MDT in the deal. MDT is based in Westford, MA. and develops GaAs microwave diodes; the products are used for alarms, motion detectors, and other sensor products…. (more)

Santa Barbara-based Occam Networks, a provider of hardware for the broadband access market, said yesterday that it has added Ironton telephone Company of Coplay, Pa., as a customer. Occam said that Ironton is expanding and upgrading its DSL network with Occam’s systems. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. Ironton serves 18,000 subscribers in eastern and central Pennsylvania.

San Diego-based Verimatrix, a provider of products for securing IPTV video, said earlier this week that it has added Smart Telecom, a provider of video on demand services in Ireland, as a customer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however Verimatrix said that Smart Telecom will use its Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for its digital video network. The Verimatrix product is used to prevent the pirating of pay-TV content.

Beverly Hills-based Spark Networks, operator of a number of online personals web sites, said yesterday that it has named a new CFO. Spark said that Brett Zane will join the firm in December to replace current CFO Mark Thompson, who is leaving the company in January.
